The Bartram Trail, designated a National Recreation Trail, is located in Clayton. Quaker William Bartram created this trail over 200 years ago and it spans over 40 miles.

According to 2000 Census, the City of Clayton had a population of 2,019 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population increase of 25.2%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
